Residuum

Residuum is a reaction to the politically generated tragedies and travesties I hear of daily on the news. In a broader sense, it deals with the dynamic of stagnation or suppression and the inevitable consequential eruption. At what point do institutional contortions to defend and protect begin to degrade our environment both inside and out? To illustrate this tension, the juxtaposition of concrete and silk serves as a metaphor for the impervious and the yielding. Meticulous needlework refers to organic and codified structures and a cycle of destruction and mending while it also attempts to redraw a connection between society and its environment. Allusions to domesticity and warfare conflate the notions of comfort and protection with those of suffering and vulnerability..
