FIXATION
Fixation was spurred by a partial inner tube found at the side of the road on a cross-country road trip. The object embodied the production cycle from naturally occurring resource to refined product and then decaying back to a natural state. The rubber’s pliability and strength called for being reshaped into a more organic form. Randomly cut shapes of cast-off inner tubes were laboriously stitched together to create undulating relief forms that possibly evoke landmasses. The surface of the forms has a fetishistic quality, alluding to society’s addiction to transportation and convenience at the cost of natural resources. It has been shown in a variety of configurations.
